On Saturday 19th January Amy and a group from Thrive made their way to the Rocklyn Yoga Ashram near Daylesford for a day of personal wellbeing. The group started the day with a cuppa just outside the Thrive studio in Edithvale and then jumped aboard the bus with driver John who facilitated some early morning bonding for the group as they made their way to the ashram. Once at the ashram the group was welcomed by staff with a morning tea and an opportunity to sit and take in the beautiful setting around them. The ashram is nestled within the depths and silence of the Wombat State Forest.
The first activity of the day was a session of yoga nidra – a relaxation where the body rests and the mind is directed into positive meditation. This was a perfect start to the day for participants as they were able to stretch after the bus ride and ease into the day. Soon it was time for lunch and the ashram provided a delicious vegetarian lunch that included produce from the Ashram’s veggie garden. It was great to match the natural surroundings with some healthy food.
For the next few hours the group took the opportunity to walk around and take in the surroundings, visit the book store, sit and reflect and have some enjoyable conversations with other members of the group. At 3.30 there was a one hour Hatha Yoga class with one of the ashram teachers..
The ashram is an ideal setting to get away from one’s hectic life and find some time to settle the mind and relax the body. Keep an eye for our next Ashram visit later in the year.
