What is Pilates

Pilates is a series of exercises that together build strength and flexibility. The exercises were originally developed by Joseph Pilates, who called the collection of exercises Contrology, referring to the level of control and concentration required in executing each movement. Modern day Pilates consists of a repertoire of over 500 exercises to be done on a mat or on one of the many pieces of equipment Joseph invented.

Benefits of Pilates

  • Core strength – Works to strengthen your core muscles – lower abdominals, back and pelvis – this improves posture, helps prevents back problems, and increases the ease with which you can perform everyday activities.
  • Improves flexibility and balance. By creating long, lean muscles without adding bulk you will increase your feeling of vitality and have greater agility and reduced tightness throughout the body.
  • Improves performance during training – enables you to activate the correct muscles during weight training, running, cycling, golf and other activities
  • Muscle tone – helps you achieve a flatter stomach, tight butt and defined arms and legs
  • Rehab from injury – Helps to fix the aches and pains and restore them back to health
  • Pre & Post Natal – provides a safe way to exercise during pregnancy, gets the body ready for delivery, helps to bounce back quicker after childbirth.
  • Improve wellbeing – helps with breathing and calms the central nervous system allowing you to achieve a more peaceful, clearer mind.
